For many Muslim Americans, 9/11 was a double punch of tragedy and bigotry

The actions of 19 Islamic extremists on 9/11 left an indelible mark on America. Today, millions pause to commemorate the attacks’ 13th anniversary, to honor the victims and to remember that all life is special and sacred. But there’s an untold story amid the many speeches and moments of silence — one filled with a different kind of pain, grief and strong sense of loss.

Those stories are now being told on social media

"All I did — what I did was — was release the videotape to you, because I had to," Jackson told reporters on Aug. 15 when asked why he released the robbery footage. "I’d been sitting on it, but I — too many people put in a [Freedom of Information Act] request for that thing, and I had to release that tape to you."

Writing for The Blot, Matthew Keys reports that the police department did not receive any specific requests for the videotape.

"A review of open records requests sent to the Ferguson Police Department found that no news organization, reporter or individual specifically sought the release of the surveillance tape before police distributed it on Aug. 15," Keys writes.

Journalist Andrew Perez also said that he has tried to get the documents to show who sent FOIA requests for the recording.

"I requested all requests for the videotape too, and they produced a ton of docs but no requests for the tape," Perez tweeted.

Perez also tweeted that, when asked, Ferguson Police spokesperson Tim Zoll couldn’t think of any specific requests for the tape.

Your daily reminder the Ferguson Police Department participated in a large-scale conspiracy to slander and demonize Michael Brown, while protecting his murderer, fellow officer Darren Wilson. How and why anyone could still be defending these armed thugsis beyond me. #staywoke #farfromover

I always find it fascinating which atrocities merit the attention of the world.  There are certain stories that are told over and over again and others that are never spoken of.  It’s almost like there can only be one clearly identified group who were victims of genocide or a holocaust no matter that others have suffered as much and for longer periods of time.  And let’s not forget that just like people unable to see Mike Brown’s humanity are unable to see the victims in Africa as true victims.

84yo Asian American victim of NYPD brutality to sue city for $5 million

I blogged earlier this year about the story of Kang Chun Wong, the 84 year old Chinese American man who was brutally beaten by New York City Police Department officers after he was stopped for an alleged incident of jaywalking. Wong, who speaks predominantly Cantonese and Spanish, was walking on the Upper West side when he was stopped by Officer Jeffry Loo at the intersection of 96th and Broadway.

According to the NY Daily News, Officer Loo asked for Wong’s identification, which Wong provided. However, when Loo began to walk away with the ID, Wong — not understanding what was happening — protested. That’s when Loo, along with several officers pushed Wong against the wall of a building and then slammed him to the ground, bloodying his head. Witnesses were horrified, capturing graphic pictures of Wong being handcuffed and taken away.

Wong was eventually charged with jaywalking, along with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, however the Manhattan district attorney’s office decided not to prosecute the case.

Now, Wong — through his attorney Sanford Rubenstein — is suing the city and the NYPD for $5 million dollars.

Cops.

"You were allegedly walking in the street which can be dangerous so I’m going to beat the shit out of you instead." Makes sense.

the word is, the 84yo man actually went on a go green walk light. and almost finished crossing the street. but everyone knows in new york how quickly their don’t walk signs turn red, and that’s when the police stopped and assaulted him. so it’s a bullshit jaywalking ticket too.

okay but imagine Thor and Jane being all domestic, living together or at least to some extent playing house, and imagine them getting into huge fights where things get heated and Jane starts to use her knowledge of mythology for some sick burns.

Oh hell nah!

My dad would be terrified

I would want the aisle seat.

Imagine it’s a late night flight, and everyone’s dozing off. In your half-asleep stupor you look down at the floor and you see a face gazing in at you through the glass, a face of something not quite human..

how cool

Can you imagine how scary this would be during a thunderstorm with lightning?

The Japanese Rural Toy Museum, founded in 1967, is hidden behind a bunch of old warehouses in the back alleys of Kurashiki. Hundreds of handmade and antique toys from different parts of Japan are displayed in four rooms of a converted rice storehouse, including over 200 kites plus bells and whistles, miniature floats, antique Japanese dolls and masks, traditional Kurashiki Hariko (hand-painted papier-mache figurines), and spinning tops. The museum’s owner Ohga Hiroyuki is actually in the Guinness World Book of Records for spinning a giant top for 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 57 seconds in 1983. Unfortunately, the record has since been broken by someone else, using a custom-made top Ohga had designed. But if you ask, he will do a little demonstration for you. Of course not for over an hour. You can also purchase a toy of your own in the attached shop, which sells regional toys, crafts and artwork.
